According to an article by By Molly Driscoll, Staff Writer for the Christian Science Monitor in an article published on December 20, 2012, the original story was much more gruesome than the Disney film translation. The evil queen gave Snow White a corset so tight that she passed out making her look dead. Another version had the prince supervising Snow White's funeral when one of the dwarves dropped the coffin and the piece of apple lodged in Snow White's throat was dislodged and she came back to life.

Since 'Snow White' is a folk tale, there is no original story. Throughout Europe one can find several versions of this story which were told orally and therefore changed some details. You can find versions where the evil queen wants the hunter to bring her Snow Whites heart, sometimes she prefers to have the liver. Sometimes she even eats what part she has been given.
Although the fairy tale collection of the brothers Grimm is the most famous, it wasn't the first to be published. A very significant influence was the French authour Charles Perrault who published about 100 years earlier. It is important to know the difference between 'Kunstmärchen' and 'Volksmärchen'. The 'Kunstmärchen' can be traced back to a very specific author and his/her imagination, e.g. Hans Christian Andersen (although a lot of mythology and legends can be found in those kinds of fairy tales). The 'Volksmärchen' on the other hand derives directly from the oral story telling tradition and authors like Perrault and Grimm merely wrote down what was told. It has nothing to do with an original idea and writing them down is rather a kind of histography.

I couldn't find an English version for this: link http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksm%C3%A4rchen
