Well I've been to a lot of websites and no one seems sure where this phrase came from. The most prevalent opinion is that it as first heard in an episode of "Mystery Theater 3000", episode 22, "The Legend of the Dinosaurs". It was spoken by character Joel Hodgson.

"Joel: (after the Mads tell him the movie is a Sandy Frank film) Well, you know what I say: Never trust a man with two first names, especially if the first one's a woman's."

As this was in 1989, I am not sure if it is the origin, as you heard the phrase before 1979!!
This second site also has someone who was seeking the origins of the phrase and again, could only trace it to this movie.
