In 2006, Navratilova became the oldest-ever Grand Slam tournament champion when she won the United States Open (U.S. Open) mixed doubles title. At that time she was just over a month away from her 50th birthday (October 18). Her partner, Bob Bryan, was born in 1978, four years after she won her first Slam title.

Daniel Nestor was a mere 41 and 5 months when he won the same title in 2014.

Both are still playing at a high level, and may have further victories to come.

Serena Williams is the oldest ladies' singles champion with her recent French Open win at the age of 33 and 9 months. She beats the 25 year record held by Martina Navratilova, who won the 1990 Wimbledon title at 33 and 8 months.

Serena is still playing (and winning), so the gap is likely to widen.
