In the original (written and sung by Buffy Sainte-Marie) it was 'Dachau'. Donovan's version changed it to 'Liebau' (now Lubawka in Poland), which was indeed a Hitler Youth training centre. Why the change was made I can't say. Nor can I remember which version of the words my cousin and I used when we were performing in pubs for free ale (and a collection taken in a pint glass...). She sang a lot of B StM, amongst all sorts of other stuff (some being taken down from live performances in other pubs...) Oddly enough, 'Laval' rings a bell and it could have been that - I do remember never being sure what that bit meant. That was in the days before accurate lyrics could be easily obtained in text rather than by listening over and over to records... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Soldier_(song)
