Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The film opened to a scene in the Vietnam war. There, Sgt. Andrew Scott(Lundgren) went crazy, killing villagers and his own troops. Luc Deveraux (Van Damme) saw Scott trying to kill a Vietnamese couple so he tried to stop him. The Vietnamese couple and the two soldiers ended up dying. How did Scott and Deveraux die?

Answer: They shot each other.

Luc Deveraux saw Andrew Scott going crazy, so he tried to talk him out of killing the two villagers. Sgt. Scott did not hesitate as he shot the male in the head. Deveraux responded by kicking the gun out of Scott's hand. He set the female free but Sgt. Scott responded by throwing a grenade and killing the fleeing woman. Deveraux and Scott began to fight. Deveraux stabbed Sgt. Scott with a bayonette before they ended up shooting each other to death. Discovering the corpses, hours later, the U.S. Army official told the coroner to list them as missing in action. Little did anyone suspect that they would be using the cadavers for a military experiment.
2. The film resumed in the present day. The new Universal Soldiers were getting equipped to take down a group of terrorists. The mission went well until GR-44 (Deveraux), noticed an Asian couple crying in a corner. He had a flashback and realized that GR-13 (Scott) was a villain. When explaining himself to Colonel Perry, what did Colonel Perry convince GR-44 to believe?

Answer: He was confused.

While it was clear that GR-44 remembered GR-13, the Universal Soldier project team convinced him that he was "confused". They used a memory erasing injection to try and control GR-44's rogue memories. Whilst getting the injection, it was made quite clear that GR-13 hadn't forgotten about Deveraux either.
3. After getting fired from her news station, rogue reporter Veronica Roberts decided to sneak into the base where the Universal Soldiers were located. While her partner waited, she snuck in to take some photos. After disovering the truth, she tried to make a getaway with her partner but he flipped the car. GR-13 and GR-44 once again faced a male and female prisoner. GR-13 shot the male, before Deveraux grabbed the female and ran off. The two went to a motel, where Deveraux needed to cool down. What was the solution for his overheating?

Answer: Getting into a bathtub filled with ice

After getting to the motel, Deveraux tried to cool down by getting naked in front of the air conditioner. When Veronica left the room to inquire about the suspicious loss of power, Deveraux followed. He told her that he needed to cool down, before dropping in the middle of the parking lot.

She dragged him back into the hotel room and covered him with bags of ice, before the Universal Soldiers arrived to take down Deveraux and Veronica. The soldiers failed and the two made an unprecedented escape.
4. Deveraux realized that there was a tracking device somewhere in his body, so he and Veronica stopped at a gas station to remove it. There, they went into a back room and tried to locate it. He stripped down to make the tracker easier to locate. She eventualy found it. Where was it located?

Answer: On the back of his leg, between the calf and thigh

When Veronica found the tracker, she asked what she should do about it. Deveraux handed her a Ginsu knife and told her to remove it. She refused, so Deveraux stabbed into the back of his leg and told her to pull it out. She peeled back some skin and muscle before removing the tracker and setting up a trap for the incoming soldiers.
5. Upon removing the tracker, Veronica and Deveraux hid away. The Universal Soldiers arrived shortly afterwards, falling for their makeshift trap. GR-61 and GR-86 fired blindly into the room where the recently removed tracker was located. What happened to them as a result of the trap?

Answer: They burned to death.

As the two soldiers fired into the building, a kerosene lamp rigged to drop, fell over onto a trail of gasoline and lit the soldiers on fire. The entire gas station exploded, killing GR-86 and GR-61. GR-55 was mortally wounded as he never recovered during the events of the film. GR-76 was burned but he was saved in time. Andrew Scott (GR-13) was too smart to fall for the trick so he waited in the back of Deveraux's stolen car to ambush them. Scott didn't wear a seat belt, so he ended up flying out of their windshield, when they hit a rock.
6. Deveraux and Veronica's next stop was a diner in the middle of nowhere. There, they would have a meal and locate Doctor Gregor. While Veronica was making her phone call, Deveraux consumed inhuman amounts of food, before the waitress asked him how he'd be paying. Because he was clearly unable to pay, Hank, the Chef, went to beat him up. After starting a large fight, Deveraux only said one thing. What was it?

Answer: "I just want to eat!"

When Hank arrived to beat some money out of Deveraux, he was surprised when Deveraux told him that he didn't want to hurt him. Hank laughed it off before striking at Deveraux. Deveraux ducked and kicked Hank in the head, forcing him to crash through a table. Comedically, as several muscle bound characters attacked him, he continued eating.

After beating one of them into a booth, Deveraux bit into his sandwich and said that he just wanted to eat. He said it to everyone in the diner because he enjoyed the magic of eating so much he did not want to fight over it. No-one listened.

After the fighting seemingly ended, Deveraux picked up a bowl of popciorn and began to eat that as well. The man Deveraux knocked into the booth returned for another round. Veronica was talking on the phone outside and didn't realize that anything was wrong until she hung up the phone.

The instant she set it down, one of the attacker's flew through the diner's window, unconscious. As she stepped inside, she saw Deveraux eating more food.

She asked him how his lunch was. All he did was breathe deep and smile.
7. After Deveraux and Veronica escaped from the Universal Soldiers, Sgt. Scott took over the troops by killing Colonel Perry and any other person who opposed him. Two scientists tried to kill Scott but failed. How did they try to kill him?

Answer: They tried to inject him with the amnesia needle and increase the pressure of it to damage his brain.

One of the scientists reminded Sgt. Scott that he was overheating, simply to coax him into the refrigerated chamber. There, the scientist came up with the idea of injecting him and increasing the pressure to destroy his brain. His fellow scientist thought it was too dangerous, so he decided to go instead of his partner. Scott was prepared and quickly placed the scientist into the chair, activating the needle and killing him.

The other scientist could do nothing but watch as his friend was murdered.
8. With her phone call, outside the diner, Veronica confirmed Dr. Gregor's address. They met him and learned of the origin of the Universal Soldier. Dr. Gregor explained the reason that Deveraux had to constantly keep cool. Apparently, to reanimate the corpse he had to raise the body temperature and increase the heart rate of the person. As a result, they had a tendency of overheating. Only periodic refrigeration could prevent them from dying of overheating. As a result of the experiment, which of the following was a trait exhibited by the Universal Soldiers?

Answer: All of the these

The procedure to create a Universal Soldier resulted in an abnormally functioning body. Despite the tendency to overheat, the reanimated soldiers had increased muscular strength, trememdous stamina and the ability to rapidly heal themselves. These traits were all shown in the film.

When Deveraux was shot in the initial escape with Veronica, his bullet wound healed up completely while in ice. He also managed to push a military-grade sport utility vehicle at 30 miles per hour, for several miles. The reason a soldier should avoid overheating was simple. Like normal humans, the Universal Soldiers needed their cells and brain to function normally.

At a certain temperature, cells begin to degrade and blood begins to boil. Once a person gets to that stage, recovery is highly unlikely.

The problem was more deadly for the Universal Soldier because they overheated many times faster than an ordinary human being.
9. Because she thought that Sgt. Scott was dead, Veronica decided to drive Luc Deveraux back to his childhood home. In which state was his home located?

Answer: Louisiana

After escaping a prison bus and stealing a police car, the two people drove to Deveraux's family farm in Louisiana. The person who greeted them was Deveraux's mother. At first she didn't believe it was him, but after examining him, she was convinced that it was her missing son. The father promptly came out, expressing relief over his son's safe, albeit late, return from Vietnam.
10. Sgt. Scott somehow located Deveraux and Veronica at the family farm and decided to finish them. He hit Veronica with a grenade and tried to kill Deveraux and his parents. Fortunately, Deveraux stole one of Scott's muscle enhancers and used it against him. How was Sgt. Andrew Scott ultimately defeated?

Answer: He was ground apart by an active combine.

Sgt. Scott fell off of a cliff during a chase with a prison bus, earlier in the film. Scott somehow escaped uninjured. When he attacked Deveraux's home, Scott seemed invincible because he was injected with muscle enhancers. After Scott seemingly killed Veronica, Deveraux had a sudden jolt of strength.

He stole one of the muscle enhancers from Scott and fought him hard. After some impressive martial arts action, Deveraux decapitated Andrew Scott on the combine's blades. The antagonist survived. He tried to pull Deveraux, head first, into one of the blades, but Deveraux broke Scott's arm. Deveraux promptly activated the combine, making mince meat of the crazed Sergeant. Deveraux checked to see if his parents were safe and then checked on the grenade victim, Veronica.

He was overjoyed to see that she had survived the blast.
