Non-Mormon scholars do not acknowledge the existence of either a "reformed Egyptian" language or a "reformed Egyptian" script as it has been described in Mormon belief.
Nephi described the writing system of his people as a combination of "the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians." (1 Ne. 1:2.) A thousand years later, Moroni recorded that his people still spoke Hebrew but that the plates were being written in a script called "reformed Egyptian."
