"The Junto" was a club for mutual improvement, founded in 1721 by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia.

Also called the "Leather Apron Club", it's purpose was to:

debate questions of morals, politics, and natural philosophy, and to exchange knowledge of business affairs.
