A Time to Every Purpose Under Heaven Quiz

When Master Robinton passes away, he is found in front of the otherwise blank monitor screen displaying the quote "A time to every purpose under Heaven". His fire lizard companion Zair has gone too. It is one of the most moving scenes in the entire series of Dragonriders novels, and takes place near the end of "All the Weyrs of Pern" (1991).

AIVAS, or "Artificial Intelligence Voice Activated System" came to Pern with the original colonists, 2500 years before Robinton's time. After the building housing the system was buried under metres of ash from a volcanic eruption, it lay dormant until the site of Landing, and the first settlement were rediscovered.
Once the solar panels were cleared, AIVAS came back online, and was finally able to fulfil the last directive given by the original colony leader Admiral Paul Benden, and assist the people of Pern to end the menace of threadfall forever.

Answer: Merelan

Merelan was a Master Singer in her own right, and was highly respected and much loved.
She longed for children, but Robinton was her only one, and she almost died during his birth.
"The Masterharper of Pern" is the fifteenth volume of Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonrider" series. It was first published in 1998.

Answer: S'loner

S'loner was the Weyrleader. He wasn't a very "hands on" loving parent to Falloner, but trained him as a bronze rider once he Impressed his own dragon.
He died of a heart attack midflight, and when his dragon, Chendith, remained between in grief at the death of his rider, Lord Maidir of Benden Hold was his passenger, so was also lost.
Robinton and Falloner (later F'lon) first met at Benden Hold as children, and remained friends until F'lon's untimely death at the hands of one of Fax's men.

Answer: Cortath

Cortath is a bronze dragon, ridden by M'ridin. The dragons have come to the Harper Hall to convey musicians, including Robinton's parents, to Nerat Hold to celebrate a wedding.
Robinton's friends think he is very daring to speak to Cortath, and it is considered a great privilege when a dragon speaks to a non rider.

Answer: A boundary wall

Robinton declared "a wall has two sides" and made the two bickering families work
together to carry out repairs.
His decision amused and impressed Groghe, who went on to become Lord Holder at Fort, and the two men were friends for the rest of their lives.

Answer: Green

Robinton adored Kasia, but shortly after their wedding, she caught a fever and died. He had composed "Sonata to sea green eyes" especially for her, but she never got to hear it.

Sebell is brought to the Hall as a youngster by his grandfather Rantou, who is a cousin of Merelan. Sebell eventually becomes the Master Harper after Robinton, and is like a son to him.

Fax prefers his holders to be ignorant of their rights, and uneducated. He bans harpers from all his holdings, and actively encourages violence against them by his thugs.
Evenek only just manages to get away and bring information to the Hall about Fax's plans.

Answer: Camo

Camo is the only child of Robinton and Silvina. Tragically, he suffers oxygen deprivation during his birth, and has learning disabilities. His parents love him dearly, and he lives happily at the Harper Hall, but Robinton regrets what might have been.

Answer: Lytol and D'ram

Robinton has to retire after he has a heart attack. All Pern comes together to build Cove Hold in the warm southern continent for him to live in.
Lytol was Lord Warder at Ruatha Hold until Jaxom came of age and took his place as Lord Holder. Bronze rider D'ram was one of the "Oldtimers" who came forward in time with Lessa to help fight thread.
They are all getting older, and when AIVAS is discovered, the three men get a new lease of life as they work together as administrators of the site.
