Kokeshi dolls are traditional Japanese dolls that do not have arms or legs but only have a trunk and head. The dolls are made out of wood and are painted with simple designs.
The dolls were the basis for Nintendo's Wii avatars called Miis. Unlike the dolls, the Miis do have arms and legs but their basic shape and large-sized head resemble the kokeshi dolls.
The PlayStation game Little Big Planet also uses kokeshi dolls which can be used for player-constructed levels. Several other video games have also incorporated kokeshi dolls.
