Released posthumously in 2018, how long was Orson Welles' film "The Other Side of the Wind" in development?

"The Other Side of Wind" took 48 years to develop! Production began in the 1970s with Welles intending on a comeback. Maybe he thought it would be the next "Citizen Kane". Some legal and political issues slowed production. Then Welles's death in 1985 also slowed the process but it did not stop entirely.
