Is WWII hero Lofton Henderson considered by many to be a US equivalent to the Japanese kamikaze?

Given that USMC aviator Lofton R. Henderson didn't set out initially to crash his airplane into the Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryu, then I don't think so.
His left wing burst into flames as he began his final approach. Henderson continued the attack and perished as his plane dived toward the enemy carrier. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.

To me, these seem like the pragmatic actions of a heroic person in a no-win situation.
