Thomas Cook was the first to establish a travel agency officially. In 1841 he arranged for 485 people to travel by train for a temperance movement campaign event. He charged each 1 shilling. By 1851 he was helping 150,000 people attend the Great Exhibition in London! In 1865 he started the company, Thomas Cook and Son. His slogan was "Don't just book it, Thomas Cook it!"
Thomas Cook founded his namesake company in 1841 to facilitate providing rail transport between major English cities. The company's first trip was from Leicester to Loughborough and it is widely believed to be the first travel package facilitated by a travel agency.
