Luis Alvarez! He proposed that a meteor hit 65 million years ago in the area of Yucatan which is now the Gulf of Mexico. The massive impact would have caused massive firestorms, flooding, and occlusion of the sun. This process caused an increase in iradium which was discovered by Alvarez as the KT boundary.
