In the 17th and 18th century, many of the European countries were fascinated by Chinese interior decorating styles. So many wealthy Europeans would imitate the style and often have a Chinese room in the house. This style was made even more popular when Louis XIV had an elaborate Chinese room in his Palace of Versailles.
