What type of animal is the fer-de-lance?

The fer-de-lance is a pit viper which is a venomous snake. Also known as the barba amarilla, yellow chin, the viper lives in the tropical regions of the Americas and tropical Asia.

It is worth noting that in Central America all Bothrop snakes can be labeled as fer-de-lance so it can represent more than one species there.
