Joachim Ziesche is considered to be the best East German hockey player ever. He was induced into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1999. He scored 284 goals as a player. He was also a very successful coach for the East German team for 18 years as well.

Udo Kießling was born in Crimmitschau (East Germany) in 1955. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2000.
