Various sources credit William Shakespeare as having coined (i.e. invented) up to 2,000 words and/or phrases into the English language. Has any other author been credited with creating more original English language?

This article from "Time" suggests the 1,700 number includes phrases and words that are found in print for the first time in Shakespeare's works. Which isn't the same as saying he invented them. Chaucer's published works give us thousands of words that had not been published before, but, as with the Bard, it is not thought he invented them. The article suggests that John Milton is the most prolific neologizer, having created over 600 new words.
