"(I've Had) The Time of My Life" was recorded by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. It was used as the theme song for the movie "Dirty Dancing" (1987). It was written by Franke Previte, John DeNicola, and Donald Markowitz. Previte was the lead singer of the band Franke and the Knockouts. The group had a hit with the song "Sweetheart" in 1981.
Previte wrote the lyrics to the song with DeNicola and Donald Markowitz writing the music. Previte recorded a demo of the song with singer Rachele Cappelli. The more lush version recorded by Medley and Warnes was used in the movie but this version was not ready when filming of the movie took place. So Previte's version was used as a backing track in the movie.
