Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania is named after the athlete. Thorpe never lived in the town while he was alive, but his widow made a deal with the struggling town to bury his body there if they would rename the town Jim Thorpe. A little creepy in a way. Thorpe passed away in 1953. Jim Thorpe's family tried to sue the town to bring Thorpe's body back to his reservation in Oklahoma but has been unsuccessful so far.

Great question!
