Lübeck is considered the world capital of marzipan which is a confectionary consisting fo sugar and almond meal. It is absolutely delicious.
The city’s most famous culinary treasure is the world-renowned Lübecker Marzipan. Lübeck considers itself to be the world capital of marzipan and is home to two of the most well-known marzipan producing companies, namely Niederegger and Carstens! Lübeck is also famous for its wine!

As for why some sources say that it is called the world Capital of Marzipan because of it was not only the first place in Germany to make it but also because of the high quality of the marzipan made there. The location of Lübeck with easy access to the Baltic Sea also made the sale of marzipan easier.
