"Zadok the Priest" was composed by George Frideric Handel. Handel, a German-born composer who later became a British citizen, wrote the piece for the coronation of King George II. It is one of four coronation anthems he composed for the occasion and is based on a passage from the Bible, specifically 1 Kings 1:38-40, which describes the anointing of King Solomon.
