Addis Ababa in Ethiopia is the African capital city in elevation. Its lowest point is near Bole International Airport, which is 2,326 metres (7,631 ft) above sea level, whereas it rises to over 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) in the Entoto Mountains in the northern suburbs. The official elevation is situated at an elevation of around 2,355 meters (7,726 feet) above sea level. Only four other capital cities in the world have a higher elevation (all in South America).
