This is the closest to the truth you'll probably get, and it may still be a load of bull.
William Safire, the conservative commentator and master of lexical legerdemain, took up that very topic in a recent New York Times column. According to Safire, 'frim fram' is a very old term for deceit, while 'ussin-fay' is pig Latin for 'fussin'.' But 'shafafa' simply stumped Safire, who called (Diana) Krall (who recorded it)for her take on it. 'It's all about sex,' she purred.'
