The Beatles started off by being called the Quarrymen as this was a derivative of Quarry Bank School attended by John and Paul. They later changed their name to the Silver Beatles, and some time later dropped the Silver to become the world famous Beatles. The rest, as we know, is history.
Starting with The Quarrymen, then Long John and the Silver Beatles, when they went on tour in Scotland with Johnny Gentle. Then just The Silver Beatles, then dropping Silver, for just the Beatles.
The Quarrymen, Johnny and the Moondogs, Long John and the Silver Beatles, The Beetles, The Silver Beetles, The Silver Beatles, The Black Jacks Skiffle Group, and finally The Beatles.
The Beatles were originally called "The Quarrymen", but they used many names such as "Johnny and the Moondogs", "Long John and The Beetles", "The Beatals" (that's not a typo) and "The Silver Beatles" before finally going with Sutcliffe's idea of "The Beetles" as a tribute to Buddy Holly and "The Crickets".
