Steptoe & Son is the story of two men and a junk cart, bonded by blood and tied by the reins of Hercules the horse.

In the episode entitled "A death in the Family" Hercules dies and is replaced with a horse which is found to be pregnant and is renamed as Delilah (I think they called it Sampson to start with or Sampson was the name given to the foal)
