Marsupials are a large, diverse group of animals found almost exclusively in Australia, although some species are found in North and South America. No marsupials can be found in Africa, Asia, or Europe, with the exception of a feral population of wallabies that escaped from a zoo in England. http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/animals1/mammal/marsupial.html

The Virginia Opossum is the only species found in North America.
Found this too:
"One of Columbus' captains, Vicente Yanez Pinzon. He was master of La NiƱa on Columbus' first trip. Eight years later, he lit out on his own. Pinzon took back an opossum, the first marsupial Europeans had seen."
South American ones are (more) opossums and rat opossums. These form a group with the North American ones. Then there's the Monito del Monte or Colocolo, which is the only member of its order and probably related to the Australasian marsupials.
