When did Band Aids brand stop using red string tear strips?

I don't know the exact date, but I still have a packet in the cuboard, so if they have i'd say last year some time.

The string appeared in 1940 according to the official Band-Aid Brand Website.

As for when it disappeared......I will let you know soon. (e-mailed FAQ Dept!)

As per Band-Aid.


In 1940 the Tear String design was added to make opening the wrapper easier. In 1993 the red Tear String was changed to pull - down wrapper.

Wow, thank you! I knew they'd changed the red string, but I thought it was in the last couple of years.

Here's the definitive answer: 1992-1993.

New York Times article from July, 1992:

"Alas, this small pleasure is about to end. By the end of the year, Johnson & Johnson will phase out the strings on all its Band-Aid products; some, like the Sesame Street and Glow-in-the Dark varieties, have already been changed. The company is switching to the technique used by most of its competitors: a wrapper held together by an adhesive strip that is simply pulled."
