Subject: The Official Share a Story Thread

Posted by: Terry
Date: Aug 24 12

If you are directed here by a FunTrivia challenge, please reply ONLY in this thread for the challenge. Only posts made here will count towards your challenge!

[ And no, you will be DIRECTED to come here. Posting here without having an already issued challenge will not result in anything! Still, you can post a story if you feel like it anyway ;) ]

If sent here, the title says it all. Your challenge is to share a story.

Tell us, briefly, about something funny or interesting that has happened to you recently. Or something sad. Or something scary. Or something exciting. Something funny or strange you saw?

If nothing funny or interesting or scary or exciting has happened, then write us a poem. Or a song. Or tell us a joke.

Or just tell us what you did today. Did all you accomplish was to brush your teeth? Did you fail to even do that? Do share...

Feeling grumpy today? Tell us what irritates you. What TV show can't you stand? What TV show are you watching that you like?

So go ahead, we're listening. The only rules are that you be polite and follow our very simple rules up above.

Tell us a story...

Odd co-incidence. I was answering a quiz question which required me to complete a quotation. Just as I got to that question the quotation was said by a character on TV in a historical drama. I did know the answer already though.

Second co-incidence. In the same quiz appeared a question I had created but I couldn't immediately remember the answer. I got there in the end as the cogs and wheels in my brain brought it forward to my conscious mind.

Today was a very interesting day. I slept in and then I ate breakfast around 10:30 and then I took a shower. After that I packed my bag for Steiners. I watched a show on Netflix called THE NIGHT SHIFT. It is a funny show. It is about the night shift at a hospital and what they do for fun. I love the chacters on that show. They seem so real. I hate to leave in the middle of a episode but it can't be helped. That is life.

It is hot and humid here in Hong Kong.
Dreading the next electric bill as air-con use is essential.

There's a news story about Canadians being accused of smuggling shoes. I don't know on what scale or by what mechanism. Could it just be a case of walking them through customs?

Any way this reminds me of a story in a book called 'Exploits of the Incomparable Mulla Nasrudin' by Idries Shah, which I read when young. One of the stories concerned border guards being convinced that Mulla Nasrudin was smuggling something as he frequently crossed their border. They searched and searched him each time as well as searching his donkey's paniers. Finally in frustration they gave up. Some time later, by which time the border guards had got more friendly, one of them said to him. I know you were smuggling something but for the life of me I could not find out what. Now that you no longer make those journeys will you tell me what it was. Mulla Nasrudin said. Yes. I was smuggling donkeys.

My sister had to get her car fixed because something was broken. The garage diagnosed the fault. 'What was broken?' I asked. 'It's the part that tells you what is broken' she replied.

Many year ago when my husband was born, his mother was in the maternity ward next to a Mrs Scribbins. My husband's name was on a name tag but Mrs Scribbins baby had been delivered by Caesarian section and on his name tag the medical staff had written 'Caesar Scribbins'. Soon Mr Scribbins, who was a stoker, came to visit Mrs Scribbins, flowers and fruit in hand, but when he saw the name tag he shouted 'Caesar Scribbins, what did you want to go and call him that for?'

We have a 3 month old yellow lab who we've had for 3 weeks now. His name is Perry. He's a good boy and is already potty trained and sleeps through the night. But he is also a handful. I'm looking forward to a fun journey with him. He's number 10 of a long line of labs we've had and all the others were great dogs. .

Congratulations on your new job, cal562301! I'm sure you will get the hang of it very soon. I'm still under-employed, still looking for either another part-time job to supplement the (now) part-time job I have, or a new full-time one, and I'm getting scared. Being out of work for 3 years must have been terrible. I just finished reading a book of advice for job-seekers that stated flatly that if a person is over 40, he is essentially washed up when it comes to finding employment. I'm in my fifties. I'll keep trying, though, because I have no choice. Again, best wishes to you. Sincerely, TheQueenly1

The shortest day of the year has come and gone - I am looking forward to being able to leave for work in daylight, or at least dim light, in about another month. Somehow the day seems to start more cheerfully.

The Queenly1 I hope you find what you are looking for. Older workers (research tells us) are generally more experienced, more reliable, often more keen, more customer friendly and have a good influence on the teams they work with as good role models and calming influences, so don't undersell yourself to employers and good luck.

Dirk Benedict, aka Face Man on the TV series "The A-Team" appeared in every episode except the pilot. Tim Dunigan originally played the part of Face, but when the series was picked up, he was considered too young to play the part of a Vietnam Vet, so he was dropped in favour of Benedict.

It's a beautiful day here today but rain is in the forecast. I really want to go swimming but every time I think about changing into my swimsuit the clouds cover the sun. I think I should probably wait for another day to go swimming.

Tomorrow the Philadelphia Union football team are creating their Ring of Honor and inducting Sebastian Le Toux, their all time leader in goals, assists, and games played. Looking forward to a great day despite the expected rain.
