Ted Striker (Robert Hays) is the lead character in the movie "Airplane!". He is a war veteran who developed a fear of flying after several members of his unit were killed in action. His ex-girlfriend, Elaine (Julie Hagerty), works as a stewardess for Trans American Airlines. Ted buys a ticket onto her flight to try and mend their relationship before she moved away. He ends up getting called upon to land the aircraft after the pilots pass out. He also has a drinking problem.
