Answer: Ted Striker

Ted Striker (Robert Hays) is the lead character in the movie "Airplane!". He is a war veteran who developed a fear of flying after several members of his unit were killed in action. His ex-girlfriend, Elaine (Julie Hagerty), works as a stewardess for Trans American Airlines. Ted buys a ticket onto her flight to try and mend their relationship before she moved away.

He ends up getting called upon to land the aircraft after the pilots pass out. He also has a drinking problem. Rex Kramer (Robert Stack) was Ted's former commanding officer and a captain with Trans America who helps talk Ted through the landing. Steve McCroskey (Lloyd Bridges) was the loopy air traffic control coordinator. Johnny (Stephen Stucker) was a jokester who also worked in the control tower.

The late Leslie Nielsen played the role of Dr. Rumack, a medical doctor who happened to be traveling aboard the Trans American flight. He was called upon to help find out what was causing passengers and pilots to get sick. He was clearly a doctor as he was wearing his stethoscope in his seat. Dr. Rumack tells Ted Striker that he's the only person on board who could possibly land the plane. Ted tells him, "Surely you can't be serious." Dr. Rumack responds, "I am serious and don't call me Shirley."

When the virus first starts to spread, Dr. Rumack examines a middle aged woman complaining of a stomachache. When he examines her, he pulls out several whole chicken eggs from her mouth. When he cracks open the last egg, a speedy little bird flies off into the cabin.

One of the pilots, Roger Murdock, was played by former basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Joey breaks the fourth wall by identifying Roger as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem is trying to stay in character, but Joey keeps talking about his basketball career.

When Joey mentions that his dad thought Kareem did not play hard enough, he finally breaks character and angrily tells Joey how he busts his tail off when he's on the court.

When the passengers are boarding the flight, an unnamed young boy gains a crush on an unnamed young girl who walks by him. Later, during the flight, he brings her a cup of coffee. She accepts it and asks him to sit down in the seat beside her. The boy then asks her if she wanted some cream in her coffee, but the girl responds to him by saying, "No, thanks. I take it black, like my men." The boy just stares at her.

Lisa was a young girl on the Trans American flight who was traveling in a stretcher. She was being flown to Chicago to receive a heart transplant. Randy, the flight attendant, asks to borrow a guitar from a nun who was on the flight. She starts singing to Lisa and the other passengers start dancing along.

As she sings, she accidentally knocks out the I.V. (intravenous) tube keeping Lisa alive. Lisa starts convulsing, but manages to put the tube back in. Randy knocks out the tube a second time and this time Lisa passes out with her mother frantically trying to put the tube back in and wake her daughter up. Randy continues singing, unaware of what she is doing to Lisa.

Answer: Jive

There were two black men who boarded the Trans American flight. They spoke only in Jive. When they end up getting sick from the virus, they ask the flight attendant for medicine. The flight attendant couldn't understand them. An elderly white passenger offers to help translate as she can speak Jive.

The two men end up insulting her and she insults them back in Jive leaving them speechless.

Answer: A middle aged passenger jumps out of the emergency exit

During the flight, Ted Striker sat next to three other passengers and rambled on to them about his past. One of the passengers was an old woman who ended up hanging herself to escape Striker's story. Another passenger was a Japanese soldier who ends up stabbing himself with a sword.

The last was an Indian passenger with a turban who douses himself with gasoline. He is just about to light himself when Ted is called to the cockpit. He blows out the match and puts it in his lap, but the match still sets off an explosion off camera.

Answer: Boy's Life

The nun on the flight reads an issue of "Boy's Life" magazine. The magazine is primarily geared towards young boys who are members of the Boy Scouts. On the same flight we also see young Joey reading an issue of "Nun's Life". The cover of "Nun's Life" featured a nun in full garb riding a surfboard.

The nun owned the guitar that Randy used to play for Lisa. She and the rest of the passengers also tried to help calm down Joey's mother by slapping her when she started panicking.

When Dr. Rumack was perfoming his examination of the passengers and pilots affected by the virus, he asked the flight attendant what the food choices were for dinner. She told him the choices were steak and fish. At that point, Dr. Rumack finally remembered what he had for dinner. "He had lasagna."
