Answer: Marie Antoinette

Emperor Joseph mentions her several times in the movie. He references the time that the child Mozart asked her to marry him and he later mentions that his dear sister Antoinette "is beginning to fear her own people"... smart girl. (Her own people finally guillotined her.) Maria Theresa was Joseph's and Antoinette's mother and Elizabeth was Joseph's niece.

"Tatort" is a German Detective story translated into the "Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street", "Dangerous Liaisons" is the original version of "Cruel Intentions". It is the story of love and betrayal - a very good movie although "Cruel Intentions was a miserable adaptation. "The Life and Loves of Beethoven" is a French biography of Beethoven, but focuses on the romantic companionships and friendships, while "Immortal Beloved" delves further into his madness, his depression, and his brilliance.

Salieri planned on paying Mozart to compose a Requiem, then murder him and pass off the Requiem as his own work. But Mozart died without finishing the composition, causing Salieri's hatred and madness to grow, feeling that God would rather destroy his great creation than allow a mediocre (Salieri) to receive any glory. Ouch.

Mozart's father is trying to convince the Archbishop to re-hire Mozart, and the Archbishop is furiously opposed to the idea at first. After a bit of grovelling, the Archbishop gives Leopold permission to attempt to talk Amadeus back into employment with him. Unknown to him, however, Mozart has already married against his father's wishes, and does not wish to work for the Archbishop again.

Mozart is livid that he must submit copies of his work to compete with other composers for the royal appointment to teach the Emperor's niece. When told he isn't the only composer in Vienna, he responds in his characteristically arrogant manner by saying, "No, but I'm the best!"

In real life, as in the movie, Mozart felt that the Requiem foreshadowed his own death. After Mozart died, a student of his finished the "Requiem," following instructions left by Mozart.

The dictation scene is one of the most fascinating in the movie. During filming, Tom Hulce would deliberately leave lines out so that F. Murray Abraham's confusion would make Salieri look like a lesser musician.

While Mozart is dying of illness, Salieri says that he knows no greater composer than Mozart. This, plus the fact that Salieri is the only colleague who came to "The Magic Flute," convinces Mozart that unlike the Emperor's lackeys, Salieri has a genuine respect for his music.

I don't know if this scene has any historical basis, but it is a rich moment in the film! Originally, Frau Weber was Mozart's landlady. He fell in love with her older daughter who did not return his affections. Then he turned his attention to Constanze, the younger. Maria Magdalena Hoffdeml is the focus of great rumor and speculation concerning Mozart. Although she is never seen or mentioned in the movie, Maria was Mozart's piano student and alleged mistress. One of the Mozart death theories has Maria's angry husband attempting to murder her, poisoning Mozart, and committing suicide. Maria was pregnant during all this, supposedly with Mozart's child.
