Howl's Moving Castle Trivia Questions

Answer: Turnip-head

They call the scarecrow Turnip-head because its head is a turnip. Turnip-head turns out to be a missing prince who was put under a spell.

Markl was Howl's apprentice. Josh Hutcherson ("Zathura", "Bridge to Terabithia") was the voice of Markl. Billy Crystal was the voice of Calcifer, Christian Bale was the voice of Howl, and Crispin Freeman was the voice of Prince Turnip.

They sure can eat a lot of food! Calcifer, the fire demon, controls the moving of the castle and all the every day things, like heating water. Howl is the only person he obeys so Markl is just used to having bread and cheese as Howl is often away. Sophie soon sorts Calcifer out with some straight talking, leaving Howl and Markl very impressed.

Howl said this when he woke up and saw what Sophie's hair looked like. He said her hair looked really beautiful.

His pink and blue jacket looks sort of like a jester's jacket. When Sophie first meets Howl, she doesn't know who he is. Some guards are harassing her and he uses his magic to help her out. He's being chased by The Witch of Waste's goons. To escape, he takes Sophie roof walking, and drops her off on the balcony of her destination.

Sophie said this shortly after Howl complimented her on her hair's silvery color and how it looked like starlight.

She was in fact his true love. Right after he changed back, the Witch of the Waste specifically mentioned that . Then she told the prince, "It seems that you true love is in love with someone else."

Calcifer said this when rain hit him when it seeped through the ceiling. Calcifer is upset with rain because he can't get wet.

Sophie says this to him to encourage him and give him the strength so he can lift the castle when it is in ruins. Calcifer is flattered when Sophie refers to him in this way.

She sees how Calcifer and Howl made their bargain when Howl was younger and understands that to help them both she needs to return Howl's heart to his body. Calcifer had been keeping Howl's heart for him which had ended up enslaving them both. She starts falling back through the portal, so she shouts at them to find her in the future. Which they do.

When Sophie kisses him, Turnip-head turns into the missing Prince. The Prince is the reason the whole war started. He was turned into the scarecow by the Witch, and his own country accused Sophie's home country of kidnapping him.

Howl said this when Sophie told him to let her help him. This was in a nightmare Sophie had about Howl.

When Sophie first sees Heen, she thinks he is Howl in disguise. Heen is Madame Suliman's dog but follows Sophie back to Howl's castle and lives with them.

Though it was a message from the Witch of the Waste, it was Howl who said or read it aloud. After he was done reading it he said "That can't be good for the table."

Heen takes a liking to Sophie from the start and follows her as a loyal friend. He only reports back to his mistress, Madam Suliman, at the very end, when all the spells are broken and the missing Prince (Turnip Head) is restored to his true self. With his return, the war, which started because he went missing, can finally end.
