Billy Mack (played by Bill Nighy) is referred to in the film as 'the bad Grandad of Rock and Roll'. You see him being interviewed on the radio, talking to a presenter named Michael. When Michael asks him what he thinks of the record, he says, "You know as well as I do, the record is rubbish." He then goes on to talk about adding an extra syllable to the fourth line of the song.

Jamie and Aurelia jump into the lake after the wind blows the book he is writing away, the pages disperse and get ruined in the water. When they are both in the water he says, "there better not be eels in here. I can't stand eels". Then he freaks out when something in the water touches him, although it is not made clear what this is.

Daniel prepares Sam for this 'horrible thing' called love by giving him advice. In the meantime, Sam learns how to play drums and impress the American girl of his dreams in time for the school Christmas concert (which is attended by many of the film's characters). When Joanna belts out her rendition of "All I Want For Christmas is You", she steals Sam's heart before she departs for the airport. Daniel helps him out by driving him to Heathrow to say one last goodbye and the two (with the help of Rowan Atkinson's character) are able to stop Joanna at the gate. Sam gets the kiss he wanted and she returns to Britain in the epilogue.

Ironically, Aurelia has also been learning English for Jamie, "Just in cases." He discovers that she learned English when he goes to her place of work to propose to her in her native language, Portuguese. She answers "yes" in English.

When Harry leaves work to go Christmas-shopping with his wife, Mia asks him if he's going to give her something. He wonders if there is something she needs, and she replies "I don't want anything I need, I want something I want. Something pretty." Harry: "Are you going to give me anything, then?" Mia: "I thought I made it clear last night? When it comes to me, you can have everything!".

"All You Need Is Love" is a 1967 Beatles song, written by John Lennon. The song was a #1 single in over ten countries.

Apparently when he was in college, Richard Curtis' girlfriend left him for a man named Bernard. In each of his screenplays, there is a fairly unpopular character named Bernard. - if you see the deleted scenes on the DVD, you'll see Bernie is a faily unpleasant child!

Harry, played by Alan Rickman, is married to Karen, played by Emma Thompson. The scenes showing Karen's realization of her husband's infidelity, were for me, the most moving of the film.

Answer: Driving her home

At the beginning of the film, Jamie (Colin Firth) is seen telling his girlfriend (played by Sienna Guillory) how much he loves her. She is staying at home that day, as she has a cold. Jamie goes to a wedding and, at his lunch break, comes back to check on her. He finds her there, with his brother, and I needn't say more. He moves to a different home in France where he is acquainted with a housekeeper/cleaner named Aurelia. She falls in love with him, and he falls in love with her. There is a very strong language barrier, and she mimes to him about driving her home. He then replies, "Yes. My favourite time of the day - driving you home." She can't understand, but she replies (in Portuguese), "My least favourite time of the day - leaving you."

Kris Marshall played the wonderfully slap-happy, lay-about, older son Nick in 'My Family', a character similar to that of Colin Frissell in 'Love Actually' (except that Colin holds down a steady job, something Nick never managed to do). Mark was played by Andrew Lincoln, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and John was played by Martin Freeman, who graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Rodrigo Santoro, who hails from (and still lives in) Rio de Janeiro made 'People Magazine's' 2004 list of the 50 Most Beautiful People. Somehow that doesn't surprise me!

In the movie, we see the back of her as she walks up to the house, but she is not actually revealed until the end of the film at the airport, where she brings Denise Richards for Colin's friend. Shannon Elizabeth is likely most famous for her role as Nadia in "American Pie".

"..or you'll actually miss it!" Jamie's girlfriend can't go to Peter and Juliet's wedding because she's not feeling well. She is really not going because she is cheating on Jamie with his brother, who is coming over.

Jamie spoke English and Aurelia spoke Portuguese, creating an awkward communication situation, but that didn't stop them from falling in love with one another.

This is one of my favorite scenes in this movie, Mark holds up all these signs except 'enough now' is what he says as he walks away.

This can be seen by the carrier bags she is holding. And it is here that Rowan Atkinson appears as a jewellery salesman.

I thought when Jamie learned the language of his maid and went to her home, that was so sweet and wonderful.

Juliet (played by Keira Knightley) offers Mark (played by Andrew Lincoln) the pie, but says that she would have been heartbroken if he accepted. At first Mark says he can't find the tape, but Juliet finds it and discovers that all the film is of her. This is when she finds out that Mark loves her.

Although a bit of a demeaning job for the two of them, John (played by Martin Freeman) and Judy (played by Joanna Page) seem to be two of the most timid people ever. The two are quaint and polite, despite their job, and they hit it off well, talking comfortably in between and during erotic takes. While their relationship is left to itself at the end of the film, the two seem to be the proper match for one another. They both appear at the Christmas play at the end of the film, as members of the audience.

Keira played Juliet, the bride of Peter (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) and the object of the affection of Peter's best friend, Mark (Andrew Lincoln). Keira started acting in 1993 when she was seven, and worked primarily in made-for-TV movies. In 1999 she played Sabe, Queen Padme's decoy in 'Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace'. The role that brought her to stardom was that of Jules Paxton in the wonderful film 'Bend It Like Beckham'. Since then, she has starred in 'Love Actually', 'King Arthur' (as Guinevere), 'Pride and Prejudice' (as Elizabeth Bennett, a role for which she received an Oscar nomination) and as Elizabeth Swann in 'The Pirates of the Caribbean' movies.

Mia, the minx who makes a play for her married boss Harry (Alan Rickman) was played by German actress Heike Makatsch, who lived with actor Daniel Craig, the new James Bond, for five years before ending the relationship. Joanna Page, a Welsh actress, played Judy, who falls in love with Jack while they are both working as stand-ins for actors in a blue movie.

Karen was played by the amazing Emma Thompson who gave a very moving performance as a middle-class wife and mother. Thompson also played opposite Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman in 'Sense and Sensibility' (1995), with Thompson as Elinor Dashwood, Grant as her love interest Edward Ferrars and Rickman as Colonel Christopher Brandon, who loves Elinor's sister Marianne (Kate Winslet). And, of course, every 'Harry Potter' movie fan knows Thompson as Professor Sybil Trelawney, who teaches Divination at Hogworts and Alan Rickman as Severus Snape.

Her husband actually bought a necklace for his assistant at work who is persistently pursuing him. An affair is never actually shown in the movie, just implied. When Karen opens the gift that is actually a Joni Mitchell cd, she goes to her room, plays the cd, and cries.
