Answer: kings and those in authority
The Apostle Paul instructed, "I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." (I Timothy 2:1-4, NIV)
Paul recognized that leaders in government need prayers in their decisions and lives because they can lead peace or cause destruction. In Paul's day many of the government leaders encouraged war and persecution of the Christian church. Many of the first Christians met in secret and were not able to practice their faith openly. Those that did paid a very dear price with their bodies and their lives.

Answer: In Egypt during a contest with Pharaoh's sages
The names Jannes and Jambres are found only here in the Bible, but Roman sources name them as ancient magicians or Egyptian sages. The Church father Origen (3rd century AD), says that Paul is referring to a lost work called "The Book of Jannes and Jambres" and that these men were among the sages that Pharaoh summoned in Exodus 7:8-13 to contend with Aaron and Moses.

Answer: Derbe
Paul visited all of these places during his first missionary journey (Acts 13-14) to Cyprus and what is now central Turkey. At Pisidian Antioch he and Barnabas were forcibly evicted from the town, at Iconium they were threatened with stoning, and at Derbe Paul was attacked by a mob and left for dead. In Acts 16 we are told how Paul on his second journey first encountered Timothy in Lystra. But here, in II Timothy 3:11, he mentions only Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra.
