Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. King Arthur

Answer: First Knight

In "First Knight" (1995) Mr. Connery played an aging King Arthur, a man who was greatly respected by all throughout the land - except, of course, for the evil Malagant (Ben Cross). He was set to marry the lovely Guinevere (Julia Ormond), and while it was apparent that she was in love with him, she was also attracted to a loner who joined the knights of the Round Table as Sir Lancelot (Richard Gere). What will Malagant try to do to steal Arthur's kingdom? What will happen between Guinevere and Lancelot?

Sean Connery was the first James Bond, starring in "Dr. No" (1962). He played the role seven times, finishing his last "Bond" movie, "Never Say Never Again" (1983). According to a story by ABC News, his favorite "Bond" movie was "From Russia with Love" (1963).
2. King Richard I

Answer: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Mr. Connery's role in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" (1991) was an uncredited cameo, but his appearance was made with perfect timing and panache. Robin (Kevin Costner) and Marion (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) have defeated the evil Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman), securing the kingdom for Richard I, who had been away for a long time fighting in the Crusades. Now they wish to marry. Will the king object?

Mr. Connery was paid $250,000 for his role in the movie, which he donated to charity. Did you know that his first name was Thomas? He was named after his grandfather; as a young boy people called him Tommy or Big Tam. Sean was his middle name.
3. Henry Jones, Sr.

Answer: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Mr. Connery played the role of Indy's (Harrison Ford) father in this "Indiana Jones" installment. And he was perfect, playing Henry Jones, Sr., the teacher of medieval literature that students did not want! Occupied by his grail quest, the oldest Jones apparently wasn't the best of dads, but when Indy found that his father had gone missing and received his meticulously kept grail diary in the mail, he began a quest of his own. Are two Jones better than one against the Nazis?

When Mr. Connery was first offered the role in the movie, he turned it down because there was only a twelve year difference between him and Ford. He reportedly turned down the opportunity to star as Gandalf in "Lord of the Rings" because he didn't understand the story line, and didn't want to be in New Zealand for 18 months!
4. Jim Malone

Answer: Untouchables

The premise of the story is one that has been recorded in history, so viewers know essentially how it will end. Jim Malone was a fictional character, however, the role, which won Mr, Connery an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor In 1987, was influenced by a real life FBI officer who was one of the Untouchables led by Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner). As Jim Malone, Mr. Connery played one of the good guys, a veteran police officer who was tired of the corruption in Chicago. How will his story play out?

This are conflicting stories out there about Mr. Connery's participation in the 1953 Mr. Universe contest. It is known that he began body building as a young man; one source says that he placed third in the Junior class. He said that he was discouraged from continuing because it was difficult to compete with individuals that "refused to participated in athletic activity which could make them lose muscle mass".
5. Tarzan's Greatest Adventure

Answer: O'Bannion

Okay! Who doesn't love "Tarzan" movies? This one is a real goldie oldie, made in 1959, and one of Mr. Connery's first movie roles. He actually played one of the bad guys, a member of a gang! Tarzan (Gordon Scott) must save his land from a group of thugs who wanted to steal dynamite in order to blast a diamond mine.

As a young man Mr. Connery was offered a footballer contract with Manchester United. Already working in a touring company, he decided that his career as an actor would potentially have more longevity than a career as a footballer. He was 23 years old at the time.
6. Time Bandits

Answer: King Agamemnon

Young Kevin (Craig Warnock) loved to study about ancient Greece. Virtually neglected by his thoughtless parents, he found a hidden portal in his bedroom that allowed him to join a group of dwarfs who had stolen a secret map. They were pursued by Evil, who wanted possession of the map. The group was able to visit several locations, but Kevin ended up in ancient Greece, where he met King Agamemnon, who was played by Mr. Connery, and aided him in defeating an enemy. What will happen? Will Evil take the map? Will Kevin's parents get a clue?

Mr. Connery retired in 2006, commenting that he was disenchanted with Hollywood and acting. Although some believed that he would come out of retirement the next year to star in another "Indiana Jones" movie, he declined, saying that retirement was too much fun.
7. Medicine Man

Answer: Robert Campbell

In "Medicine Man" (1992) Robert Campbell stumbled upon what appeared to be a cure for cancer while conducting research in the Amazon rainforest for a pharmaceutical company. But the precious serum was running out, the company's representative (Lorraine Bracco) was talking about cutting off his funding, and the outside world was pressing hard on the native people. Can they they replicate the formula and save the people from the logging company?

In the beginning Ian Fleming really didn't like the idea of a Scotsman playing James Bond. He changed his mind after seeing Mr. Connery in the first movie. It is said that after that, future stories portrayed Bond as a Scotsman.
8. Marnie

Answer: Mark Rutland

An Alfred Hitchcoock thriller, "Marnie" was released in 1964. Connery played Mark Rutland, a wealthy man who becomes involved with Marian Holland (Tippi Hedren), a woman with a troubling past who appeared to be a thief. Did Rutland know that she stole money from his firm before marrying her? Can he help her?

Connery joined the Royal Navy when he was 16, as there weren't many job opportunities in Scotland. He said that it was difficult to find a job and he really didn't have any job qualifications anyway. He gained two tattoos, one that said "Mum and Dad" and one that said "Scotland Forever". Stomach ulcers were the cause of his discharge three years later.
9. Molly McGuires

Answer: Jack Kehoe

Based on a true story, the Molly McGuires were Irish workers who formed a secret society that protested the working conditions of coal miners. Jack Kehoe was the leader of the group that sabotaged mining operations. What will happen when someone is hired to infiltrate the group?

Mr. Connery was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2000 at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. Sources claim that his name had been brought up earlier, but his views regarding Scottish independence had been too concerning.
10. The Name of the Rose

Answer: William of Baskerville

Released in 1986, "The Name of the Rose" is one of Connery's most intriguing performances (in my opinion). It earned him a 1987 BAFA for Best Actor! He played an intellectual, a Franciscan friar, who lived during a time when knowledge was feared and those who pursued it could find themselves persecuted. He and his young novice (Christian Slater) arrived at an out of the way abbey to attend a papal debate. But there was evil lurking there, as one by one several monks were found dead. Is Satan about? William needs to find out before the Inquisition arrives.

In 1989 Mr. Connery, almost 60 years old, was chosen "People's" Sexiest Man Alive. To date, he is the oldest man chosen for the distinction. His comment? "Well there aren't many sexy dead men, are there."
