Abyssinian: Although the name denotes Ethiopia, the origin is most probably Egyptian. This is a very agile cat, that has slender limbs and long tail. Its short hair is reddish brown together with black or brown bands. It looks a lot like the sacred Egyptian cats.

Balinese: The cat does not come from Bali, as the name implies, but from the USA. It is a mutation of the Siamese. It has a long body, long hair and blue eyes.

Bombay: This is another cat that was bred in the USA. It is a cross of Burmese with American shorthair. It has short black hair and golden eyes.

Birman This breed most probably originated in Burma (now Myanmar) and it is called the "Sacred Cat of Burma". It is a long-haired cat with a heart-shaped face, brown or red colour coat and blue eyes.

Chausie: This breed was first registered in 1995 and is a cross breed between the jungle cat and a domestic cat. Solid black, black grizzled brindle, and black brindle are the three colours that are allowed for the breed. The eyes are normally yellow.

Himalayan: This is a breed that has Siamese and Persian breed traits. It has a stocky build with short legs and long hair, normally cream coloured and blue eyes.

Korat: This is one of the oldest breeds, having short silver blue hair and with green or amber eyes. It takes its name from the Thai province of Korat.

LaPerm: This breed is native to the USA and takes its name from its curly coat. It comes in a variety of colours and the fur is wavy or curly.

Lykoi: This breed is known as the werewolf cat or wolf cat. It is a result of a natural mutation and has very little black mixed with gray hair. The eye colour is normally green or amber.

Manx: Although its origins are not very clear, it is presumed that it comes from the Isle of Man. It is tail-less and it has a hollow where the tail should be. The coat comes in a variety of patterns and colours.

Peterbald: This is a hairless cat with Russian origins. It has long thin legs and a narrow, long head. The eyes are blue or green and the skin comes in a a variety of colours.

Ragamuffin: This is a large cat with a muscular body, a triangular head with dense fur and they come in lots of colours. It is a native of the USA.

Somali: This cat is a long-haired variety of the Abyssinian. They come in various colours and so do the eyes.

Sphynx: This is a breed of hairless cat with very oily skin. The breed originated in the 20th century by accident.

Toyger: They look like toy tigers, hence the name. They are strong and muscular with short hair, that comes in different colours, and eyes that range from blue to brown. It was bred in the USA.
