1. Chartreux

The Chartreux is a cat breed that originated in France. The breed is large and muscular with a silver-grey coat which is often termed 'blue'. The first mention of the Chartreux cat is in a poem by Joachim du Bellay from 1558. The Montreal International Jazz Festival has a Chartreux cat as its mascot.
2. Manx

Manx cats are perhaps best known for having no tail. The breed originated on the Isle of Man, a British Crown Dependency located in the Irish Sea, with the name Manx being the name given to people and things from the island. There is evidence of Manx cats being shown at cat shows since the 1800s and in 1903 the first breed standard was published.
3. Norwegian Forest

The Norwegian Forest cat is a breed of cat from Northern Europe. It is believed that the breed was developed from long-haired cats brought to Norway in Viking times by explorers and traders who had acquired the cats in other parts of Europe and what is now modern day Turkey.

The Norwegian Forest cat has a thick double coat consisting of a thick woolly undercoat and a water-repellent top coat designed to help it withstand harsh winter conditions found in Scandinavia.
4. Sphynx

The Sphynx cat is a hairless cat breed that was developed in Canada. The breed was developed by selectively breeding cats of other breeds which were hairless due to a genetic mutation until a hairless breed was developed. Sphinx cats can be quite susceptible to the cold as their lack of fur leads to them losing body heat more quickly than other cats.
5. Turkish Van

Despite its name the Turkish Van was actually developed in the UK by crossbreeding different cats from areas of Turkey. The name Van refers to the patterning of the cat which only has coloured fur on its head and tail with the rest being white. The name 'Van pattern' is named after the breed.
6. Dandie Dinmont

The Dandie Dinmont is a small type of terrier dog originally developed in Scotland. The name of the breed comes from a character in the novel 'Guy Mannering' by the Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. The breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1888 and by the UK Kennel Club in 1918.
7. Basenji

The Basenji is a dog breed that originated in central Africa. The breed is known for the unusual sound it makes which is likened to yodelling rather than barking. The American Kennel Club accepted the Basenji as a breed in 1943.
8. Puli

Answer: Dog

The Puli is a dog breed from Hungary which was traditionally used for guarding livestock and herding animals. The breed has what is called a corded coat with tight curls that look similar to dreadlocks.
9. Saluki

Answer: Dog

The Saluki is a type of sighthound from the Middle East. The breed has a thin, narrow body similar to that of a greyhound and has floppy ears covered with long hair. The breed has a long history with dogs looking similar to modern day Salukis appearing on Sumerian cave paintings dating from between 6000 and 7000 BCE.
10. Papillon

The Papillon is a small breed of dog from the spaniel family. Small spaniel type dogs that look similar to the papillon were first recorded in Italian artworks from the renaissance period. The name Papillon comes from the French for butterfly and the breed is so called due to its butterfly shaped ears.
