Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Wax

Answer: Ruby

British-American Ruby Wax, born as Ruby Wachs in Illinois, US, is a media personality. Trained as an actress, she has performed as a comedian; as an actress in various films; and as a TV personality, mostly in the UK. She has written a number of books and campaigns in the mental health arena.
2. Corundum

Answer: Ruby

Corundum is a crystalline form of aluminium oxide with some additional trace elements. The metal impurities it contains (normally iron, titanium, vanadium and chromium) have an impact on the colouring of the transparent crystal. Those gemstone-quality crystals containing chromium are typically a shade of red and known as rubies. Gemstone versions with different colouring are called sapphires.
3. Slippers

Answer: Ruby

This is a reference to the magical ruby slippers worn by Dorothy in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz". A number of pairs were made for the film and five pairs are known to have survived, which have their own history now and fetch high prices at auction.

They were actually silver shoes in L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel on which the film is based, however the film studio wanted to make use of the new Technicolor film technology and so changed them to red.
4. Murray

Answer: Ruby

There are two parts to this. First is the singer from Northern Ireland with that name. Ruby Murray was popular in the UK during the 1950s and made history with five hits in the charts at the same time in March 1955. Her popularity in time led to her name being adopted into Cockney rhyming slang, so having a Ruby Murray meant having a curry (which is the second use of the phrase).
5. Clock

Answer: Face

'Clock' and 'face' go together in analogue clocks. There are two main versions. The 12-hour clock with marks, numbers or symbols to indicate each hour and sometimes minutes. The 24-hour version has double the numbers with one sweep of the hour hand amounting to a day. There are often several 'hands' or pointers which may indicate hours, minutes or seconds.
6. About

Answer: Face

To do an about-face is to change direction. The term "about-face" has a history of military use where it may be a shouted instruction to marching soldiers to turn to face the opposite direction. 'About Face' is also David Gilmour's second studio album, which came out in 1984. This was part of his solo career, separate from involvement with the band "Pink Floyd".
7. Time

Answer: Face

Face time is time spent talking to someone using a visual form of communication rather than by audio only or written methods. Face Time is also Apple Inc. software for video calls, which was introduced in 2010.
8. Scar

Answer: Face

The is a reference to the 1930 novel by Armitage Trail which was turned into a film in 1932. It was remade as the 1983 crime drama "Scarface", starring Al Pacino. As a gangster film it portrayed a lot of violence, strong language and drug usage, attracting negative criticism. It has proved to be an influential film.
9. U2

Answer: Edge

Irish rock band U2 has four members, one of whom is known as Edge or the Edge. Born as David Howell Evans, his roles are as lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals. The nickname was bestowed by the surrealist bunch of Dubliners known as Lypton Village, the same group who gave Paul Hewson his Bono moniker.
10. Bleeding

Answer: Edge

The bleeding edge is the most modern part or position of something, typically technology. So new that it is still being developed and perhaps carries some risk. It perhaps uses the image of a freshly-used knife or sword blade as a metaphor.
11. Microsoft

Answer: Edge

Microsoft Edge is the web browser supplied with the Windows 11 operating system. Initially released for Android and iOS platforms in 2017, the Chromium-based version was built and released in 2020. There was an earlier version of Edge based on Microsoft's own browser engine EdgeHTML, however this was renamed Edge Legacy.

It was released in 2015 and sits between Internet Explorer 11 and the 2020-released Edge (or New Edge).
12. Trailing

Answer: Edge

The trailing edge on a wing or other aerodynamic surface is the rear edge. Flight control surfaces, which help to steer the aircraft by changing the direction of airflow, are located here. In LED lighting, there are two types of dimming technology: leading edge and trailing edge. Leading edge dimmers were designed for incandescent and halogen lamps, designed for more power than LEDs typically produce. Trailing edge dimmers are more suited to LED technology.
