Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Buddhist path" - "deadly sins"

The Buddhist path is 8 fold minus 7 sins that are deadly giving a total of "one" for our first answer. The Noble Eightfold Path is an excellent way to live life regardless of one's persuasion. The path consists of: right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. All the aspects focus on building inner peace and living a life by the Golden Rule of respecting all including the self.

There are a total of 7 deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. The Seven Deadly Sins are everything the Noble Eightfold Path is not. While the seven might bring pleasure in the short run, they usually come with a cost to the self or others.
2. "Blackjack" - "age of the dancing queen"

A blackjack is 21 minus the 17-year-old dancing queen in ABBA's song to give a total of "four". Blackjack is a card game where the object is to get as close to 21 points without going over. The face cards are worth 10 points and the ace is worth either one or eleven points.

"Dancing Queen" was one of ABBA's biggest hits about a 17-year-old falling in love while dancing. While the song was written as part of the Europop genre, it had enough in common with Disco to be a massive hit in the USA. Bjorn and Benny wrote the music to the song first and a few months later shared it with the rest of the group. In Sweden, the song first debuted on August 15, 1976.
3. "Blind mice" x "2nd prime number"

There were three blind mice who were terrorized by the farmer's wife and the number three is the second prime number after two. Multiply three times three and the answer nine is achieved. As for the poor mice, they were already blind and by the end were also tailless!

Prime numbers are defined as a number that is only divisible by 1 and itself. The number one is not considered a prime number making two the first and only even prime number. Three is the second prime number followed by five and seven. After one, nine is the first odd number not to be a prime number.
4. "Number of planets" x "Number of Martian moons"

There are a total of eight planets in the solar system and two small moons that are in orbit around Mars. Multiply eight times two and the total is 16. The eight planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. In 2006 Pluto was no longer considered a planet. The downgrade was due to the standards adopted by the International Astronomical Union which required planets to have cleared all debris in the area around them with their gravitational dominance. So, in other words, Pluto is not massive enough to be a planet and thus is now labeled as a dwarf planet.

The two moons of Mars are Phobos and Deimos. Their names come from the two horses that pull Ares' chariot and mean "fear" and "panic" respectively. Both moons are tiny; Phobos measures 13.8 miles across and Deimos just 7.8 miles.
5. "Sides on an icosahedron" + "Olympic rings"

An icosahedron is a three-dimensional object with 20 sides and when added to the five Olympic rings the total comes to 25. For those who have played Dungeons and Dragons or Scattergories, you might recognize the twenty-sided die.

The five Olympic rings represent five continents in the following color order: blue (Oceania), yellow (Africa), black (Europe), green (Asia), and red (North and South America). The design was created by the founder of the Olympic movement, Pierre de Coubertin, in 1913 and has stood relatively unchanged since its introduction.
6. "Full miles in a marathon" + "Downing St. address"

There are a total of 26 miles in a marathon and the British Prime Minister lives at 10 Downing St. Add 26 to ten and the total is 36. The tradition of the marathon has the original runner, Pheidippides, immediately falling over dead after giving the news of the Greek victory at the Battle of Marathon. I suspect many of us would do the same! The first modern Olympic marathon was "only" 25 miles, but legend has it that Queen Alexandra in 1908 wanted the race to end in front of the royal box extending it to 26.2 miles.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has officially resided at 10 Downing St since 1902. Robert Walpole was originally gifted the property by King George II and became a resident of the mansion in 1735. The property has grown and changed over the years and now has over 100 rooms with the first two floors as mainly office space. The residence is a short walk from Parliament.
7. "Neutral pH" + "Douglas Adams' meaning of life"

A neutral pH is 7 added to Douglas Adams' meaning of life, the number 42, and the total comes out to 49. The pH scale is logarithmic with pure water measuring a neutral pH of 7. Effectively, in one liter of water, there are about 10 to the negative 7 moles of free hydrogen. Acidic solutions have more free hydrogen making their pH a number less than 7, while basic solutions will have a pH greater than 7.

In Douglas Adams' "Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" a powerful computer named "Deep Thought" spent 7.5 million years deciding the meaning of life is the number 42. Unfortunately, after millions of years, no one knew exactly what the original question was, including Deep Thought!
8. "White keys on a piano" + "face cards in a deck"

A standard piano has 52 white keys and a standard deck of cards has 12 face cards. When adding 52 plus 12 the total is 64. A standard piano has just over seven full octaves from A0 up to C8. The black keys provide the sharps and flats added to make up the 12-tone chromatic scale commonly used in music.

There are four suits in a deck of cards and 3 face cards in each suit being the jack, the queen, and the king. The traditional pictures on a deck of cards are said to represent famous leaders in history. Some historians believe the 52 cards in the deck represent the 52 weeks in the year with the four suits representing the seasons. They also suggest that red color is thought to represent the day while black represents the night.
9. "Bryan Adams' summer" + "Days of Christmas"

Canadian singer Bryan Adams had a huge hit with his song "Summer of '69" which can be added to the 12 Days of Christmas to come up with the number 81. The "Summer of '69" is about having fun in the summertime of one's youth and the challenges of balancing being a rock star with getting married.

Traditionally, the 12 days of Christmas run from December 25th to January 6th from the birth of Jesus to the Epiphany of the Wise Men. The time period is often associated with celebrating with family and friends.
10. ("London fire" - "Hastings battle") / "Henry VIII wives"

The Great Fire of London occurred in 1666 minus the battle of Hastings in 1066 leaving a total of 600. Henry VIII had six wives so if 600 is divided by 6 the final answer is 100. The Great Fire of London started on Pudding Lane and lasted five days consuming around 15 percent of the housing of the city. The one benefit of the fire was the killing of many of the rats that had been spreading the plague.

The battle of Hastings in 1066 marked the beginning of William the Conqueror's rule over England. Harold Godwinson was the loser of the battle with an arrow in the eye as a souvenir!

In his mad quest for an heir, Henry VIII married 6 different women, two of whom he had beheaded.
