Rashida is the child of Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton. Quincy Jones is a famed record producer, musician, and composer. Lipton is famous for playing Julie Barnes in "The Mod Squad," a television series from the late 1960s and early 1970s. She also was on "Twin Peaks." Among his many accomplishments, Quincy Jones was the producer of "Thriller," the Michael Jackson album, the movie producer of "The Color Purple" (for which he was nominated for an Academy Award as producer, the first African-American to be so nominated), and the producer of "We Are the World."

Jones is a 1997 graduate of Harvard, having studied philosophy and religion. She was active in drama and singing, and while she could not be an actor in Hasty Pudding Theatricals (since it's all-male) she was involved and co-wrote the score for its annual show her senior year.

In 1997, the same year she graduated from college, Rashida appeared in "The Last Don," a TV mini-series based on the novel by Mario Puzo. The mini-series' headliners were Danny Aiello, Kirstie Alley, k.d. lang, Daryl Hannah, and others, and as you can imagine, Rashida had a small role. In fact, if you look the mini-series up in the Internet Movie Data Base, you have to click on "more" at the cast listing to even find her name. Nevertheless, it was a start.

Rashida played the part of Zooey Rice, who becomes engaged to Peter Klaven (played by Paul Rudd). She and her girlfriends become concerned that because Klaven does not have any male friends, he will suffocate her in their relationship once they are married. Klaven develops a friendship with Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) and from that point the plot largely revolves around the relationship between Fife and Klaven. Although Rashida's character was a secondary one, she gave a believable and charming performance.

Answer: Unhitched

The Fox Broadcasting Company aired six episodes of "Unhitched" in March of 2008, as a mid-season replacement show, and cancelled it soon after that. The show's plots revolved around four people in their 30s who were newly single, mostly through divorce. Rashida played Kate Frankola, single due to her long-term engagement's falling through. She was an attorney who handled the divorces of two of the other characters. Most of her roles were focused on her efforts to begin dating again.

Answer: Karen Filippelli, Italian

Yes, she was Karen Filippelli, a character of Italian heritage. She appeared in most episodes of Seasons 3 and 4, and one or two after that. One of the funnier moments relating to her character's heritage was when she was recording a new voicemail greeting. Jim Halpert (her boyfriend in the show for much of that time) heard her attempts and said "Not bad, but you are Italian so... try it more Italian." And in a thick, mock, exaggerated Italian voice she recorded "Dis is Kar-en Fill-uh-pel-li. Please leava me da message. Abondanza." It was a very funny moment.

Peace Games is a nonprofit organization based in Boston, MA. Its basic premise is that violence among children and youths can be reduced by the teaching of peacemaking skills and techniques, and by providing youths with alternative approaches to situations that might have been settled with violence. Having been active in the organization while at Harvard University, Rashida joined the board of directors of Peace Games in 2004 and was an active member through, at least, 2009.

In "Parks and Recreation", Rashida played Ann Perkins, a nurse whose boyfriend fell into the enormous leftover construction pit that Leslie Knope (played by Amy Poehler) continually tried to turn into a park. Knope was an employee in a city department of parks and recreation, and she convinced Ann (Rashida) to enlist in the park effort and be a volunteer member of the city parks staff.

On "Boston Public" Rashida played the character of Louisa Fenn, a smart-mouthed secretary at the school. She sang in several episodes, most notably as part of a band she started with two of the other characters. Rashida has performed as a singer throughout her life. At Harvard University she was music director and sometime soloist for an a cappella group. She has been a backup singer on at least two Maroon 5 recordings, a contributor to the Tupac Shakur tribute album, and on multiple occasions sang in commercials for The Gap.

Launched in 2008 and in stores in late 2008 and early 2009, Rashida's Laloo line of clothing was made from "soft, high quality organic cotton" and designed to be reasonably priced casual clothing for women.
