Gambit was born as LeBeau in New Orleans and was adopted by LeBeau, a leader of the Guild of Thieves, when the lad was ten years old. Gambit was christened by many as "The Devil", a child who possessed the power to turn potential energy into kinetic energy.

At an early age he met the daughter of the Guild of , Boudreaux, and would fall in love with her. Their proposed marriage was heralded as the event that would unite the two waring guilds however, this fell apart when Gambit killed , the brother of his betrothed, in self-defense. In order to appease the leader of this rival Guild, Boudreaux, Gambit was banished from New Orleans.

Gambit wandered the world relying on his thieving skills and mutant powers to get by. His powers, however, were growing rapidly and, when they got to be too powerful, he started to lose control of them. In desperation, he sought the help of the geneticist (and super-villain) Mr. . To repay the debt Gambit agreed to lead a band called the , which, inadvertently, led to him being involved in the "Mutant Massacre" of a group known as the .

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

Gambit, who first appeared in the "Uncanny X-Men Annual #14" (July, 1990), was born in New Orleans with red eyes. As a result of this mutation he was abandoned by his parents, however, he was kidnapped from the hospital by the Guild of Thieves. They saw his red eyes as a sign and labelled him "Le Diable Blanco" (The White Devil), the prophesized child that would unite the two waring guilds. He was placed in the care of Fagan's Mob who gave him his initial lessons in the art of thievery.

His life would take a turn for the better when he was ten years old and deftly picked the pocket of Jean-Luc LeBeau, the leader of the Guild of Thieves. Jean-Luc saw more than a common thief in Remy, took him off the streets, refined his skills and taught him how to use the Bo, which would become one of Gambit's signature weapons. Gambit's mutant power, the ability to turn the potential energy residing within an object into kinetic energy, did not begin to manifest itself until his teenage years. He soon learned that the transfer of this power would allow ordinary objects to explode. He favoured the playing card in this experiment and, that too, became a "go-to" weapon.

Gambit and Belladonna Boudreaux met as children and, unaware that they were members of rival guilds, became fast friends. As stated above, their marriage brought hope of a reconciliation between the two factions, however, Julian, Belladonna's brother interrupted the wedding, declaring that Remy was not good enough for his sister and challenged the master thief to a duel. Remy would wind up killing Julien in self-defense, which saw him banished from the city. Fearing that Belladonna would not be able to cope with exile, Remy abandoned her.

Without a mentor or a guiding hand whilst estranged, Gambit's power began to swell, and he struggled with control. He sought out the assistance of the super-villain Mr. Sinister who removed some of Remy's brain tissue to dampen his powers. The assistance did not come cheaply, and Remy was pushed into leading a band, known as the Marauders, through the Morlock tunnels. Sinister, however, had an alternate agenda to what Gambit was advised. When the Marauders began to slay the Morlocks, Gambit endeavoured to intervene and was seriously injured by the mutant Sabretooth. He did manage to rescue one of the Morlocks, a young lass named Sarah Rushman, who would later join the X-Men as Marrow.

His restless journeys would eventually see Gambit come in contact with the weather controlling mutant known as Storm. At the time, Storm had been de-aged, was suffering amnesia and was using thievery as a means to survive. She was also under the thrall of the psionic entity known as the Shadow King. Remy aided her escape from the King's clutches and, when Storm returned to her adult persona, she introduced him to the X-Men. Allowed to join the crew, Gambit is placed in the squad's "Blue" team under the guidance of Cyclops. The relationship between Remy and the X-Men was a fractious one and it was exacerbated when his past with Mr. Sinister and his link to the "Mutant Massacre" was revealed by Eric the Red, Magneto in disguise, during a mock trial.

Booted from the X-Men, he would cross paths with them again when he attempts to steal the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. After this encounter he is invited back into the squad where he resumes his strong, though complicated, relationship with Rogue. The pair would eventually marry.
