Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Scarecrow
Answer: Spud
Spud belongs to Farmer Pickles and is always keen to help Bob. Unfortunately, Spud is rather clumsy and is more likely to cause problems than be a help, but Bob and the rest of the characters are very patient and things usually work out fine in the end.
2. Bulldozer/dumper truck
Answer: Muck
Muck is a red dumper truck whose role is to collect rubble and move it. He also has a bulldozer attachment so he can knock things down. Muck doesn't have wheels, but moves on what are called caterpillar tracks so he doesn't sink into soft ground and loves getting muddy.
3. Tractor
Answer: Travis
Travis belongs to Farmer Pickles and spends most of his time on the farm. He does come to help Bob when needed, often pulling a small trailer. Travis is a turquoise colour (a mixture of blue and green) with a red exhaust pipe. He helps to keep Spud out of trouble.
4. Bob's business partner
Answer: Wendy
Wendy is the organiser who runs the office, keeping track of the money and ordering the materials needed for Bob to do his building work. She also does some manual work, like putting up wallpaper. Wendy has blonde hair, which she ties up into a ponytail when she is working.
5. Cement mixer
Answer: Dizzy
Dizzy is a female character and is an orange coloured mixer - the type with a rotating drum. She is depicted as excitable and very keen to help everyone. Her catchphrase is 'brilliant'.
6. Bob's brother
Answer: Tom
Tom is Bob's twin brother, but he isn't a builder like Bob and works as a zoologist (someone who knows all about animals). Tom moves away to work in the Arctic, near the North Pole. Because they are twins, Tom looks very similar to Bob but when we see him he is usually dressed in warm clothes like a jumper and heavy coat.
7. Forklift
Answer: Trix
Trix is owned by J.J., who has the business where Bob buys his building supplies. Trix works in the yard where forklifts are used to lift heavy loads and move them around. When Bob needs help on site, J.J. sends Trix along to lend a hand. She has a light purple cab and big black wheels.
8. Crane
Answer: Lofty
Lofty is a mobile crane who is able to lift Bob up to high places. He is shown as a nervous character with no confidence in his own abilities. Lofty is also afraid of lots of things, including mice. He is a blue colour with a lighter blue mouth shaped bumper.
9. Bob's cat
Answer: Pilchard
Pilchard is a female cat with a bluish-grey coat and black stripes on her tail and back. She is quite lazy and spends most of her time sleeping. Later in the series she meets a male cat, named Sprat, and has kittens.
10. Road roller
Answer: Roley
Roley is needed to flatten bumpy land and is called in when Bob has to build a road. The other machines haven't been able to flatten it, but Roley knows exactly what to do. He loves music and often makes up and sings his own songs. Roley is green and has a flashing warning light on his cab.
