Question 4 of 10

6. One of the kids thought it would be cool to talk tough and try to intimidate me, so I gave him a little taste of his own medicine by putting a monster head on the back of his own head. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My name is Karloff Menace, and my goal is to get that Fear Meter up to 100, so let's start off with a nice scare. Whose head did I attempt to pass off as a trophy?

Answer: Jillian's

It wasn't really her head. It was fake, and very well crafted, I might add. Those cowardly so-called good guys actually believed it was her head until one of them noticed that it was fake. By the way, did you know that R.L. Stine named me after actor Boris Karloff? (source: goosebumps wiki)
2. The Fear Meter is still low, and that just isn't good enough! You people aren't screaming loud enough yet! I have a very loyal sidekick. He helped me lure those little crybabies into my park. He's not the brightest bulb in the box, but he knows his place and he applauds my every word and move. Can you name him?

Answer: Byron

The correct answer is Byron. He's the Horror who tricked the kids into coming to this wonderful park. He's not the brightest bulb in the box: when I sent him to get rid of a key card from one of the kids, the little brat tricked him by giving him a library card instead.

By the way, Dr. Maniac used to be one of my guys, but he turned traitor at the end. The other two options, Michael and Robbie, are two of those little so-called heroes. Certainly not sidekicks of mine!
3. The Fear Meter is going up a bit now, but it still isn't to 100. Not even close! So tell me, why exactly do I need to get that Fear Meter up anyway?

Answer: Fear will bring the park back into reality.

My park was frightened out of reality in 1974, and ever since then I've been trying to bring it back. The way to do this is with the screams of innocent children. I've had many years to perfect my sorcery and brainstorm ways to frighten them and bring Panic Park back to the real world.
4. You trivia quizzers are doing well and screaming a lot (unlike those wannabe heroic brats), so maybe it's time for a little break. Panic Park is home to a place that serves some good food--or not! Name this place.

Answer: The Shake Shack

Ha, I tricked you all! The Shake Shack isn't a comfortable place to eat, and the only shakes we serve are the shaking of the shack itself! In fact, it shook so much that two of the kids couldn't stop shaking. I loved that so much! Oh, you should have seen their little bodies tremble in fear!
5. I just have to do a bit of boasting and say I am such a smart guy. I can do anything I want, and this whole park is mine! However, which of these feats of genius did I NOT pull off?

Answer: turn the kids into braying donkeys

No braying donkeys, but I certainly did all the other options! Plus, of course, there was the fake Jillian head. Oh, and I created all the rides, and altered the appearances of many of the little brats in one way or another. I learned all of these things from my years experimenting with dark magic, as mentioned in the book "Streets of Panic Park".
6. One of the kids thought it would be cool to talk tough and try to intimidate me, so I gave him a little taste of his own medicine by putting a monster head on the back of his own head. I think that's quite fitting, since "Monster" is his nickname and he's had experiences with real monsters back in his world. But what is his real name?

Answer: Michael

Of course it's Mikey boy. He can talk a good game, but nobody defeats the all-powerful Karloff Menace! I always have the upper hand! Oh, that Mikey Boy had his fun with monsters back in book 7 of the Horrorland series, "My Friends Call me Monster", but I still outdo him!
7. For most of the book, I allow the kids to believe that the only way back to Horrorland is through a mirror. At the end of the book, they learn that in fact the mirror isn't their way to safety. What is the real portal back to Horrorland and their mommies and daddies?

Answer: the Whirlwind

I showed them the giant Whirlwind ride in the beginning, just to frighten them out of discovering it for themselves. But some traitors helped them figure it out. The traitors I speak of are a lot of the villains from previous Horrorland books, villains I hired to help me trap the kids in my park.

But that plan failed because one of them read my mind and discovered that I planned to keep everybody there--villains and all. Too bad!
8. I want all of you quizzers to be FTD so that I can hear all of your beautiful screams and get my park back up and running. What does FTD stand for?

Answer: frightened to death

Come on people! The fear meter is only at sixty! You aren't screaming loud enough and I only have two more questions to try getting the fear meter up to one hundred! FTD is "Frightened to Death" and the kids discover it when they see it written on the grave stones of some of my failed experiments.
9. What is my personal mantra? (This is found near the end of the book.)

Answer: "More fear!"

I keep chanting "more fear!" when those obnoxious kids try to outdo me. Oh, I do believe myself to be a sort of king of my park, but I never actually say those words. I do dominate, though! If you step out of line, I may suck you up with a vacuum cleaner, like I did to a slow shadow person at the beginning of "Streets of Panic Park" when he wasn't moving quickly enough for my liking.
10. At the end of my book, most of my former cronies turned on me and helped those so-called good guys escape. What was the ultimate downfall to my beautiful park of screams?

Answer: laughter

Those treacherous ex-cronies of mine helped the kids by telling jokes and making everybody laugh, erasing all the fear in the room and in the park. I got smaller and smaller along with the park, and they were able to escape back to Horrorland and the real world. What a bummer for me and Byron and Panic Park!
