Answer: She rescued him from the Fitzgibbon's cat, Dragon.

Jeremy was a young crow who liked to collect shiny things for a friend. He had gotten his foot tangled in a piece of Christmas string which was caught on a fence wire. Mrs. Frisby risked her own life to chew through the string before Dragon pounced.

The rats soon learned that NIMH stood for the National Institute of Mental Health. They were prisoners there for three years until their escape, which wouldn't have been possible without the help of the mice.

The rats and mice in the A groups were receiving the same type of injections as often as three times a week for three years. Dr. Schultz did not realize until it was too late just how intelligent they had become.
