Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
"Barbara Bear" was a poem I learned many years ago as a child in primary school in Australia, and I have remembered it ever since, perhaps because I was a rather naughty child myself, and I felt sorry for Barbara Bear when she got into trouble (althought it served her right). Or it could have been because I had to recite it in a school concert, and the teachers made me wear a hot fluffy bear costume to do so - and I was very grumpy as a result. The audience loved it though and clapped and clapped, so that made me feel better. So did getting out of that hot costume.
In case you don't know what a greengage is, it's another type of plum that grows in Europe, and which orginated in Iran. Most of us know what plums look like when they're ripe, because they're a lovely deep purple colour, but when most greengage plums are ripe, they're a green to yellow colour. When bitten into, they have a sweet taste, a little like honey and mango combined. Yummy!
Plums, here in my country of Australia, are always ripe and ready to be munched into around Christmas, but probably in the middle of the year for everyone from overseas - but wherever you live, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas, plums or no plums, jam or no jam.
