"O Canada" is Canada's national anthem. There are two official languages in Canada, French and English. Fun fact: the French and English versions of the anthem don't say the same thing!

Canada has a red and white flag. It's a red rectangle, with a big white square in the middle, and a red maple leaf in the middle of that. The maple leaf is Canada's national symbol.

Hudson Bay, sometimes called Hudson's Bay, looks like someone has taken a big bite out of the north of the mainland of Canada. It is part of the Nunavut Territory, and touches the provinces of Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec. It is very large, only smaller than the Bay of Bengal, with a surface area of nearly 500,000 square miles. The biggest port of Hudson Bay is Churchill, in Manitoba, which is famous for its polar bears. The Hudson's Bay Company was started in 1670, and is still going!

The most easterly point in Canada is Cape Spear, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1949, Newfoundland and Labrador became the tenth and final province to join Canada. Leif Erikson sailed from Europe to Newfoundland more than four hundred years earlier than Columbus's voyages!

The Mackenzie River system, made up of the Mackenzie, Slave, Peace, and Finlay rivers, is the second longest in North America, after the Mississippi, and the longest that flows into the Arctic Ocean. It is over 2,600 miles long. Scientists think that it was the Mackenzie River that was used over 10,000 years ago by humans who came from Asia and populated North America. The Gwichʼin and Inuvialuit people have lived on the banks of the Mackenzie River for thousands of years.

Mount Catherine, also known as Gabal Katrîne, is the highest point of Egypt. It is about 8,600 feet above sea level, towards the south of the Sinai Peninsula, and is in the same mountain range as Mount Sinai, where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments.

Canada's highest peak, Mount Logan, is over 19,500 feet tall, in the Yukon Territory in the north west of Canada.

The largest lake partly in Canada, which is shared with the USA, is Lake Superior, at 31,700 square miles. The largest lake that is only in Canada is Great Bear Lake, in the Northwest Territories, with a surface area of 12,000 square miles.

Amatignak Island, in Alaska, has the westernmost longitude of anywhere in the United States of America. It is an uninhabited island about 5 miles long by 3 miles wide. Alaska is the biggest state in the USA and has the highest point, Denali, which, at 20,310 feet, is slightly higher than Canada's Mount Logan.

Canada's most westerly point is on the border of Yukon with Alaska.

Canberra is the capital of Australia. Its name comes from a clan of the local Aboriginal people called the Ngunnawal. It was built especially to be a capital after an argument about which of Sydney and Melbourne should be capital. Parliament House and the Government House are two of its famous buildings.

Ottawa, in Ontario, is Canada's capital city. The name comes from the language of the Native American Algonquin people, and means "to trade". It used to be called Bytown. It's famous for the Rideau Canal, which, in winter, becomes one of the largest and longest skating rinks in the world. Even though Ottawa is Canada's capital, it isn't Ontario's. That's Toronto.
10. Kamchatka Peninsula

The Kamchatka Peninsula is on the far east of Russia. The Kamchatka Peninsula is known for its volcanic activity, with 160 volcanoes, and a UNESCO world heritage site called Volcanoes of Kamchatka. The Kamchatka Peninsula has probably the world's largest variety of fish from the salmon family, and it is estimated that a fifth of all the Pacific salmon originate there.
