Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:

A bunk is a narrow bed and can be used to describe where you can sleep when travelling by train or on a ship. It can also mean a pair of beds, bunk beds, which have one bed attached on top of another with a short ladder to climb up to reach the top bunk. They are frequently used for children or when the bedroom is too small to have two beds side by side.

A cot is a bed for a baby or toddler. It has bars around it for safety to keep the youngster from falling or climbing out. In the USA the word crib is often used to describe this type of bed while a crib in the UK is more likely to refer to a baby's bed which can be positioned close to the parents' bed. It's still a bed no matter which version of English you speak.

A Moses basket is a woven, portable bed with handles and is useful for a small baby or to take when travelling away from home as it is easy to carry around. A bassinet is also designed for very young babies, and can resemble a crib or even a Moses basket in design, although it is less likely to be woven. A cradle is another name used for a baby's bed.

A trundle bed is a spare bed which fits under, or inside, another bed. It is meant to accommodate guests so could be very useful if you have a friend who comes for a sleepover. A divan bed has a one piece base, which is hollow. Some of them are made with drawers to provide storage. The mattress sits on top of the base and a headboard is normally attached at one end. Divans are made in various sizes such as a single bed for one person, a double for two or bigger sizes, called queen or king sized, to give even more room. The extra space is in the width, rather than the length.

A futon is a type of folding bed which originally came from Japan. It consists of a flexible mattress which can be folded up during the day for storage or to make a type of sofa. Some of them come with a wooden frame, especially if they are used for seating in the daytime.

A four-poster is a much grander bed. It has a frame around it and curtains can be hung to give extra warmth and for privacy. They were particularly popular in the past when nobody had central heating, as the curtains cut out draughts. The final type of bed is a hammock, which is often used to relax outdoors. It is made from a strong piece of cloth which is attached at each end to a support, such as a tree or pole. You then climb into it to relax or sleep.

You'd be much less comfortable trying to sleep on the other items listed. Both a desk and a bureau are where people work, sometimes in an office but also in the home. A computer might be placed on either of these and they usually have drawers in which to store paperwork. A dresser can refer to a chest of drawers, used for storing clothes, or a wooden unit to display crockery.

A nightstand is a small table kept next to the bed. You might have a table lamp on there to turn off before you go to sleep and a clock so you can see when it's time to get up. A tallboy is another type of storage unit in which to keep clothes. It can have drawers at the bottom and hanging space at the top.
