Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many days and nights was the great flood in the Bible's Noah and the ark story?

Answer: 40

According to the Bible, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. Noah's ark is how he was able to make sure two of every animal survived.
2. How many states are there in the United States of America?

Answer: 50

There were originally 13 states in the United States, but that number kept increasing over the next two centuries. Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959, and no other territorities have become states since then.
3. How many years in a decade?

Answer: 10

Words that begin "dec" often refer to things that come in 10s. For example, there are 10 numbers used in the decimal system. Or there are 10 events in a decathlon.
4. How many years in a century?

Answer: 100

Words that begin with "cent" often refer to something that comes in 100s. For example, it takes 100 cents to make a dollar. Centipedes supposedly have 100 legs (but it turns that they can have anywhere from 30 to several hundred--folks were just guessing they had 100!).
5. In miles, how long is that famous auto race in Indianapolis each May?

Answer: 500

The Indianapolis 500, also known as the Indy 500, takes place over Memorial Day weekend every year in Indianapolis, Indiana. It's the most famous race of its type in the United States. One lap at the Indianapolis racecourse is 2 and a half miles, so they have to finish 200 laps to reach 500 miles.
6. How many degrees in a circle? If you're standing in a high place, and you can see in every direction, folks say you have a view with this many degrees.

Answer: 360

If you have a 360-degree view of something, you can see in any direction. Think of of it as standing in a circle and being able to spin all the way around to see things no matter what direction they are. You just spun around 360 degrees.
7. How many years in a millennium?

Answer: 1000

It's a long time, longer than any individual will ever live, but when the year turned to 2000 a while back, it meant the planet just finished its 2nd millennium (our 2nd 1000 year period) since the time of Christ. We're now pretty early in our third millennium, or 3rd 1000 year period.
8. What's a perfect score in bowling? It's the highest score you can get.

Answer: 300

A strike, or knocking all 10 pins down with one roll, is the best kind of roll you can have. If you do that every time in a game of bowling, you'll score 300 points and have a perfect score. Just one pin left standing means you'll score something less than 300.
9. Which of these numbers is a million?

Answer: 1,000,000

The number representing a million has 6 zeroes. Those others are a thousand (1,000), ten thousand (10,000), and a hundred thousand (100,000). Adding another 0 to that last number means we have ten times more, or a thousand thousands, commonly called one million!
10. There was a famous battle a long time ago (about 480 years BC) called the Battle of Thermopylae. A small group of Spartans fought bravely against hundreds of thousands of invading Persians. The number of Spartans in that battle has been mentioned several times in history books and used several times in the names of films about this battle. How many Spartans fought at this battle? (Hint: the number is equal to the number of years in three centuries.)

Answer: 300

According to legend, 300 Spartans fought in the Battle of Thermoplylae in Greece. The battle lasted three days, with the 300 Spartans fighting to their death so reinforcements could arrive. There was a movie in 1962 called "The 300 Spartans". Probably more famous, the film "300", starring Gerard Butler, came out in 2006. That film had a sequel called "300: Rise of an Empire" that was released in 2014.
