Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Four is the number of legs an insect has.

Answer: False

All insects have six legs. Insects also have three body sections and one pair of antennae. There are more than one million species of insects that have been identified so far. Wow!
2. Four is the number of continents in the world. Well not really - how many continents are there in the world (please consider North and South America as separate continents and Europe and Asia as a single continent)?

Answer: 6

There are six continents in the world - Africa, Antarctica, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America. Some countries learn in school that Europe and Asia are separate and some learn that North and South America are separate. Personally, I learnt that Europe and Asia AND North and South America were separate continents - making a total of seven!
3. "Four!" Is a word I thought I heard on the golf course recently. In fact, I didn't hear "four!", what was the actual word I heard?

Answer: Fore!

"Fore!" was the word I heard. It's a warning to look out because someone has probably hit the ball astray and it's possibly going to hit someone.
4. Four is the number of musical notes in an octave. Really? It's not? Oh, well can you tell me how many notes ARE in an octave?

Answer: 8

An octave contains 8 notes. In fact, the 'oct' in 'octave' comes from 'octo' meaning 'eight'. There are 88 keys on a piano though, which is information that can definitely come in handy!
5. Four is the number of sides on which of the following shapes?

Answer: Square

A square has four sides, a triangle three sides, a pentagon five sides, and a circle doesn't really have any 'sides'. A rectangle, square, rhombus and trapezoid are all types of quadrilaterals, 'quad' meaning 'four'!
6. Four colours are in a rainbow. Well if you mash a couple of colours together there are! How many colours are really in a rainbow?

Answer: 7

There are seven colours in a rainbow - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet. If you take the first letter of each of the colours, it makes what is called an acronym - ROYGBIV - a way of remembering the colours of a rainbow without having to remember each colour separately!
7. Four letters could possibly be in the Martian alphabet (if indeed there are some Martians out there that have developed an alphabet!). But how many letters in the English alphabet?

Answer: 26

The English alphabet has 26 letters, A-Z. There are five vowels A, E, I, O and U, with all other letters called 'consonants'. Some other alphabets have different amounts of letters in them, for example the German alphabet has 30 letters in it.
8. Four bases can be found on a baseball diamond.

Answer: True

A baseball diamond consists of four bases - first, second, third and home. A player must hit a ball that is thrown to them from the pitcher's plate then run around the bases, touching each one, until they get to 'home'. When a player gets 'home', they score a run for their team.
9. Four is the number of suits in a deck of cards. Of the following, which is NOT one of the suits in a standard deck of cards?

Answer: Stars

Spades and clubs are black suits and diamonds and hearts are red suits. All four belong in a standard deck of cards. Stars aren't in a standards pack of cards - although they could possibly appear in a specialty deck.
10. Four is the number of gospels in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. What is wrong with the previous sentence?

Answer: The gospels are in the NEW Testament of the Bible

The gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Christian bible - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The first four books of the Old Testament are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers.
