The people in this list are Akihito (b.1933), emperor of Japan between 1989 and 2019 when he abdicated in favour of his son Naruhito, and Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998), well respected movie director of such films as "Seven Samurai" and "Rashomon". The term shogun refers to Japan's military rulers in earlier centuries. The distractor amongst humans was the New Zealand movie director Taika Waititi ("Jojo Rabbit" amongst others).

Akitas are Japanese dogs, which originated in the northern mountainous region of the country. One such animal was Hachiko, who waited for his owner's return long after the man had died. A statue was erected to the dog in the train station where he waited. The distractor here is the shar pei, a dog that hails from southern China.

Sumo is a style of wrestling that originated in Japan, which is considered that country's national sport. Many rules and customs surround the practice of the sport. Taekwondo, a Korean martial art, is the distractor here.

Many arts and crafts originated in Japan, and three are represented here. Bonsai is the Japanese art of growing tiny trees in containers.
